There are many myths around figure skating that have everyone in a chokehold. Age is one of the most misleading ones.
Skaters often think they are too old to continue and have ‘aged out’. Others may assume they are too old to begin.
Neither are true. You will skate if you wish to skate.
In figure skating, there are no rules about belonging to specific rank, so naturally everyone has been grouped into four broad categories that have little relevance to them.
(Public Skaters, Adult Figure Skaters, General Figure Skaters, Elite/ Olympic Figure Skaters)
It’s time to break the ice and clear the air.
The figure skating world has a reputation for planting big dreams in children just to discard them. It has become customary for a retired figure skater to start a new life off-ice or dedicate everything they have to the next generation of figure skaters and coaches. Rinse and repeat.
Coaching is a wonderful profession that keeps this sport alive, but I encourage you to skate for yourself as well.
Who is Phantom?
The woman behind Phantom has no relevance to who you are as a figure skater. She wishes to remind you of your value to the figure skating world.
Phantom had enough observing the figure skating world extinguish everyone’s flame, eliminate their spark and leave everyone in a heap of ashes and dying embers. Despite the desolation that many skaters find themselves in, Phantom sees hope in everyone’s dying embers.
From Phantom of the Rink you can expect:

rediscover your spark and transform it into a flame
use your flame to light sparks in those around you
Flame by flame, it is Phantom’s mission to leave the ice warmer for the future of figure skating. She does not wish to speak about herself but will admit that she owes her life to the ice.
Remember that a dying ember can still spark a flame with a single breath. You are ready for this. You have what it takes to weld it.
